“Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.” John 14:21
Obedience is not spontaneous; it is a constant battle with your flesh nature.
Obedience demands the surrender of your natural inclinations. It demands complete submission to that which is abnormal to you.
It is a discipline that must to be taught and learned.
True love, not unlike obedience must also be taught and learned.
It is not spontaneous, unlike affection, which is unpredictable and seems to come naturally. Love is a discipline, an act of obedience.
“But I say to you, love your enemy and a pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be like a your Father in heaven, …” Matthew 5:44-45
Obedience is always a test of your love for God. It is your decision to continuously resist your self-serving tendency.
Obedience is what God asks when you are told to love Him. To be fully submissive is your act and declaration of love and trust. It is the true demonstration of faith.
“And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:8
Obedience is your moment of truth, your demonstration of faith.
It is the thing you must do well when it is “Most inconvenient.”
It challenges you in your moments fear, or doubt.
Joshua is given instructions, “To do everything written in the book.” Obey “The words in the book,” all the days of his life.
It will keep him postured to act and not hesitate.
“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8
You must be strong even when obedience seems impossible, too difficult, or dangerous.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
You must choose to find the courage to obey the voice of God.
It is the only way you will prove His presence and goodness.
Obedience reveals your love and faith; it is the weapon that defeats unbelief and hardness of heart.
